Dell Optiplex 755 desktop won't go past post

I took the battery out of my Optiplex 755 dell desktop, put it back in, and now the computer won't go past post.  We have taken out the Ram one at a time, tried them separately, tested memory, is all good, but it shuts down as soon as it tries to load the hard drive.  The  hard drive works on another computer.  We will look into the graphics later, why would taking out the battery cause it to behave this way?

Thanks for the help before hand.

Windows 8 install issue

Hello to all,

I recently (in the last 3 weeks) purchased a brand new Dell Inspiron N5110 laptop. It is running an Intel i5 processor and 6gb of ram with a

1TB harddrive. I am trying to install as a dual boot option WIndows 8 Preview Release. I have followed the install directions to the letter and when

it goes to the final dual boot screen and I select Windows 8, the screen goes black nothing else occurs. I am running Windows 8 on a laptop

that is at least 4 years old and a machine at work that is the same age with no problems. This is not my "first rodeo" and I know what how to do

these things. I have tries 4 times with different install disks with the no luck. I do not get whats going on. I did read something on a forum about

a possible resolution issue, I lowered the resolution and tried again NO LUCK. I have a friend at work running almost the same machine and his

works fine. I have opted for the upgrade offer Dell has to Windows 8, I simply cannot believe this laptop will not run Windows 8. Has anyone else

encountered this problem? I am reluctant to contact Dell tech support because they treat you like a moron and I don't care for it. I need some

honest feedback from people who are experienced. I have tried ever trick in my tool box to no avail. Thank you ahead of time to all who respond to

this thread.

I have not been able to get into Itues store in 2 years. I worked with Apple support, deleted mcafee to no avail. So I decided to reformat using f8. But when I put all my backups into the sytem and reloaded Itues, same issue.

So I decided to reformat and would start from scratch with a new system using F8 but now when I click on "repair" it boots directly to windows bypassing the previous steps I need to take.

I tried running the dell system diagnostic from teh dell website and get the same thing I was getting with ituens "program stopped working"

So the reality is I would like to start with a clean slate, I have the original Dell CD and Windows CD. Frustrated!

XPS M1530 won't boot anymore.

Hi,

my Dell XPS M1530 doesn't boot anymore. It is powered, the harddrive spins up, the screen is powered but remains blank. No start-up screen, no chance to enter BIOS, nothing.

After some minutes the harddrive spools down and only the screen remains powered.

I expect a problem with the BIOS-Chip on the motherboard. Any chance to get help from Dell or spare parts respectively?

Thank you and

best regards

DELL INSPIRON MINI + WINDOWS 7 STARTER=DISASTER

Hello all have a situation and really dont know what to do.  My daughter received a Inspiron Mini with Windows 7 starter several years ago. Recently  think computer picked up a virus, well at least that what AVAST reported. It was removed but right after the system crashed. When it started to reboot it wanted to go to repair mode.  I continually done this and would never boot back to windows.  I attempted every option available including running the Dell Image Restore. It said it restored everything to factory defaults. The computer would would only boot to the repair program but never was able to repair anything. I read many blogs and articles on similair situations and fixes.  I have tried all of them. Not sure which one, but one of the "fixes" has really screwed me up.  When I attempt to boot now, it says BOOTMGR does not exist. So, I now I can't do any thing except get to the bios setup utility.  I thought well since it's really screwed now, what a better time than now to attempt to use LINUX and see how it works.  I would like information on what I would need to do to install a version on the computer.  This computer is only used for internet stuff, nothing major, just surfing ie facebook. Is there a free version of Linux for something like this?

Computer has the following:

Product  Inspiron 1011

HDD Size  160GB SATA1

CPU  Intel Atom CPU N270

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Installing second SATA hard drive on Dimension 4700

Hi All!  I've been hunting around for an hour trying to find an answer to my question before posting, but no luck.  Hopefully someone can help me!

I am not a very computer-savvy person, but decided for financial reasons to upgrade my Dimension 4700 rather than getting a new computer.  I have successfully upgraded RAM to 4MB and installed a new video card.  Each upgrade done separately to make sure computer was working properly before moving to the next upgrade :-).  My last item is installing a 1TB WD internal hard drive.  My problem is getting the computer to recognize it.  I went into system setup when booting, and set it to recognize the second hard drive.  In setup, it shows my drive as being present.  After reading several threads in this forum, it seems like I should just have to go to "disk management" and format the hard drive.  BUT...when I go to disk management, I don't see the second hard drive!  I'm running Windows XP.

Please help!  Is there something else I need to be doing?  FYI...I installed this new hard drive as the secondary one, it is just for storage, so the original hard drive is still set up as the primary.

Thanks for any advice!

E520 problem after system restore

$

I recently got a virus, sirefef, and decided that:

A. It was too much work to remove and possibly might not be able to

B. System could benefit a clean restore to factory condition

I've done this before from the restore partition, and it worked great.  Computer was like new afterwards.  However, this time, the restore went without a hitch, but now the computer is extremely slow, often having to wait 5 seconds for inputs to register, such as mouse movements or keyboard.  I've scanned both main partition and restore partition for virus and malware using Microsoft security essentials, Malwarebytes.  I also did Check disk, used western digitals hard drive scanner software, and used windows memory checker.  All report ok.

I thought maybe the data in the restore partition was corrupted, so I ordered a operating system dvd from dell and tried that.  Same result as using the restore partition: computer remained slow.  Also, the power button is now flashing green, however computer is not in standby mode.

It seems that the problem is hardware related (just a guess, as my computer skills aren't superb, but i'm no computer dummy), but I don't know where to start.  I don't want to start randomly replacing parts, as a new computer faster/better than this one isn't that expensive (however I really don't have the money to buy a new one).

So, where do I start?  Could the virus still be hiding/active after formatting the C drive or after 3 "restores"?  Could the BIOS be affected?

HDD-password lost

I've installed Windows XP on my DELL VOSTRO 1720 vith Windows Vista preinstalled on c-drive.

Windows XP was installed on a new partition called e-drive.

So far so good, XP worked fine, was uppdated and drivers installed, re-booting several times.

Once upon at time was asked for the HDD-password, and I sett in the old HDD-password I'm used to - but - suprice - not accepted by the computer.

Now it seemst that I've lost the whole HD because I'm unable to open XP and unable  to go back to Vista.

I'm able to get into BIOS, but don't see how to boot from the c-drive without the HDD-password.

Now I'm asking: Have I lost my HD, or exist any solution ?????

If I have to install a new HD, wil I be able to set the HD-password ?

Brand New XPS 8500 Does Not Work

$

Hi all. Desperately seeking help and frazzled beyond belief. I just bought a brand new XPS 8500 from Dell and took it out of the box and can't use it because it does not function properly. I get the message "video display driver has stopped responding and recovered." This is always preceded by the screen going black and the system freezing momentarily.

After this happens several times (usually every 2-5 minutes) the system will completely lock up and force a manually reboot.

I have spent almost 3 hours on the phone with Dell Tech Support and Customer Care in India and no one seems too concerned. "It's mechanical equipment and doesn't always work. They'll get someone out here and check on it  within the week." I have been disconnected twice when the tech office and customer care office try to push me off on each other and I ask for a conference call so that both departments and I can talk about a resolution to the issue.

Two different techs have connected remotely and said they can figure nothing out because every diagnostic they have run says things are working properly, but they had to run them around the error messages and computer lock ups themselves and were stumped.

The frustration doesn't even begin to cover the ordeal to get the computer in my possession.

Any ideas?

USB port is too tight

Brand new Inspiron 14z 5423.  Put Bluetooth dongle in USB port next to HDMI port.  It was tight going in but I figured it was due to being new.  Geek Squad was here about Bluetooth issue and could not remove dongle.  It was in SO tight.  He would not wiggle it and damage the mobo or break port.  Pliers may break it off in the port.

He said it was seated properly.

So, how do I remove it?  I know Dell can safely remove it but shipping it back would be a pain.   But I'd rather be safe than sorry.
