I have a Dell Dimension 4700C Desk Top computer that is now 7 years old. It does all we ask of it but I sense the Hard Drive may be reaching its life though its still performing OK. As I don't anticipate to get another computer yet, my plan was to get a Dell recommended larger Hard Drive and 'clone' the info from the old 260 GB HD. So I purchased a Western Digital 1 TB drive Manufacturer Part# WD1002FAEX. I also got an enclosure for it so the cloning could take place.
The plan looked easy enough according to the instructions that came with the WD HD. The software is Acronis True Image WD Edition. Running the software direct from the PC seemed to work up until after the reboot. At that point it seemed to get hung up. So we used Acronis to make a boot disk. It seemed to work all the way up to the Linux GUI but then it hung up. Mouse still working but mouse clicks and keyboard input ignored. In all we went through 3 boot disks all with the same result. As you can imagine this was very annoying!!!
Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how did you resolve it? What cloning program would you recommend? Any 'special' steps we might have missed in our attempts?
Thanks!
