I am planning to reinstall Windows 7 Prof 64 for these reasons
-to enable raid in bios
-to put in a new SSD for the System Drive
-to make two additonal identical hard drives into a RAID 0 array.
I have the all the disks from Dell (which took some effort to get)
Question 1) Is this the rough procedure?
1) Install blank SSD (future system drive) on sata 1 (someone said its advantageous to keep sata 0 open i dont know why)
2) Install blank HD's on sata 2 and 3
3) Enable RAID in bios setup- change setting to raid from ata/auto
4) use ctrl-i to put HD's into a raid 0 array; and ssd remains on its own
5) Put in windows disk from dell and start installing
Questions
2) Where is the sata raid driver that I am going to need? Is it on the dell disks? Should I get it somewhere else?
3) Is installing the drivers from the dell driver disk a straightforward process? (Will I be prompted?)
4) Is the Intel Storage Manager (the one that lets you look at the status of the raid array and make changes to it) on any of the dell disks?
