I have a Dell 540s running Vista connected to my TV via an HDMI cable and my TV connected to a DVD/reciever with 5.1 surround speakers via a (5+yr old) optical audio cable. I get perfect video but only 2.1 stereo output from the reciever speakers (it is not recognizing the center, rear or sub). I changed the output settings on the computer to recognise the HDMI and tried to configure the speakers from there but it ONLY gave me the stereo speaker arrangement option not a 5.1 speaker arrangment option. I went into the settings of the DVD/reciever itself and tested the speaker setup and hear audio tones from all connected speakers so that shouldnt be the problem. Any clues on how to get the 5.1 surround audio output working for the computer?
