Hello,
I have an inspiron 531 desktop that is having some issues. When you press the power button nothing happens. If I unplug it and hold the power button in for 15 sec, the green light next to where the power cable plugs in comes on. Then I plug it in and push the power button again and a blue light flashes for a second under the power button and immediately turns back off. Also the power supply fan starts to spin for 1 second then stops. I have read and troubleshooted the problem by removing and reseating everything on the motherboard except the processor with no luck. I am at the point now where the only things plugged into the motherboard are the 24? pin power from the power supply, the fan on the back of the case below the power supply, and the power button. I want to make it clear that the 4 pin? power cable next to the processor is unplugged. So with that said I plug in the power and hit the power button and the power supply fan spins and also the fan below the power supply fan but there is a high pitched squealing noise and the power button on the front is solid amber. If I plug the 4 pin power from the power supply to the mother board and plug the power in and hit the button, nothing happens and I am back to square one. If I unplug that 4 pin power and plug in the processor fan to the board and try to power it on, nothing happens. I also did the paperclip jumper trick and the power supply fan runs fine. What do you guys think is the problem? I thought it might be the power supply since it seems like it won't power anything more than 2 fans? Thanks for your input.
