Hi,
I have a similar problem to one at this link:
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/disk-drives/f/3534/p/19409484/19959090.aspx
I have a Dell Inspiron 620 with originally Win7 Home premium (64-bit). I wanted to install a second hard drive and install win8 on the new drive. The idea being I could switch from one to the other at startup pressing F2 and selecting the desired boot drive.
The procedure I used was to disconnect the first drive and install the new drive. Then install Win8 (OEM) on the new drive with the original drive disconnected. I then reconnected the original drive.
For sata ports, there are one blue, two black, and one white. The original drive was connected to the blue port and DVD drive to one of the black. I connected the new drive to the other black port.
Everything seemed to go well at first. Both bios and Windows recognized both drives and Win7/Win8 started normally. But after a few reboots, I started getting error messages at start-up indicating a disk problem and that the disk must be checked for errors (phase 0, 1, 2, etc). At one point, the Win8 disk failed completely and I had to re-install Win8.
Now I keep only one of the drives connect at a time and that works ok though inconvenient.
Is there a better solution to this?
Thanks, Gary
