I have gotten a message that says that my laptop does not recognize my ac adapter. 2 months out of warranty. Except the answer is not to buy a new ac adapter...that would simply be giving $80 to Dell for a product that cost them $4.76 to produce. Not to mention shipping and handling
Dell has known about this problem since 2008 (as evidenced by the age of the thread on the internet chat forums). They imply by this message that the problem can be fixed by a new adapter or battery. This is not true. This message is to get you to spend money on things that will not fix the problem, but to simply put money in the pockets of Dell.
If you see this message, the most cost effective way to handle it is to
1.Back up your files
2. Destroy your Dell laptop
3. Buy another laptop that is not a Dell.
When I called about my problem, which occurred 2 months after warranty had expired...I was treated rudely by Dell staff. I talked to 8 people on the phone, all were in India, and basically, all they told me was that I would have to ship my laptop to Dell in Houston(funny how you can't talk to anybody in Houston) and wait 4 weeks to get it back at a cost of approx 80% of the original product.
Michael Dell should be hanging his head in shame.
