I have a Vostro 420 running Vista. It has run well for a couple of years now. Recently, I can't boot it up anymore. When I press the power button on the front, it turns blue, internal fans start, disk spins up. Then there is a single beep (successful POST I believe), the Dell logo shows up on the screen. As it tries to boot from the disk, the screen goes blank with the cursor blinking in the upper left corner, then it starts beeping continuously - forever. The beeping is coming from the system board near the processor. I can Ctrl-Alt- Del to restart computer.
I have run all of the Dell diags and it passed: Processor, RAM, Disk, System board. I pulled the only PCI card, video, disconnected the HD.
What might be causing the beeping problem, how do I diagnose this?
