Studio XPS 8000 C-Drive

My Studio XPS8000 is reporting a C-drive S.M.A.R.T. HDD error; therefore needs to be replaced.  The original C drive in this computer is a 1TB Seagate BARRACUDA 7200.12 Model ST31000528AS; interface SATA 3Gbp/s.  This drive is not now offered by many sellers because it has been superceded by the newer Seagate ST31000524AS.  Specifications for this newer HDD are the same as the older one except its interface is SATA is 6Gbp/s instead of 3Gbp/s.

Seagate states in the manual for the newer ST31000524AS HDD under 'Configuring the drive' that it may not work unless the motherboard or host adapter supports SATA speed autonegotiation.  I can find nothing in Dell manuals for the XPS8000 about this capability.

Does anyone know whether the XPS8000 supports SATA speed autonegotiation OR whether a SATA 6Gbp/s HDD will work as its C drive?  Has anyone had success using a SATA 6Gbp/s HDD as C drive in a Studio XPS8000?

Thank you for any help resolving this issue!
