I have an Optiplex 9010 purchased last summer, running BIOS A01 and Win7 x64.
I downloaded the latest BIOS (A12) from the support site and ran it. Went through the usual prompts, clicked OK, and it rebooted.... right back into Windows. There was never any "updating BIOS" message at the POST screen. When I ran the update again, it said I was at A01, right where I started. I rebooted again and went into the BIOS and sure enough, it's still at A01.
I even copied the .exe to a bootable flash drive and tried again. It gave the "Preparing to update" progress bar, rebooted, and never actually flashed the BIOS.
This happens with the A04, A05, and A09 BIOS flashers as well. The Dell Client System Update utility that came with my system does the same thing.
In all my years supporting Dells I have never seen this. Is there something new about this procedure I'm missing?
