Hi
I have a Dell XPS L502X laptop (no longer in warranty) and the harddrive failed the other week. I have sourced a new harddrive and attempting to install windows7, The install gets so far when it states that there is no CD/DVD device driver.
I put in the driver disk provided by Dell and the windows installer cannot detect any drivers. I then stopped that and just put in the driver disk and booted from CD/DVD write from the boot options. It starts to load the disk but then I get the following error:
MSCDEX.EXE Verison 8.0 CD-ROM file handler
Copy right (c) 2005 Dell Inc. All rights reservered.
Driver not found: 'EXTCD001' .
A:\MSCDEX.EXE requires a Driver name to be specified.
Source and desination cannot be same file
Source and desination cannot be same file
It then sits with a flashing curor on A:\>
has anyone seen this before and know what I can do to get Windows 7 installed
many thanks
