The optical drive on my laptop will not read any disks

Hi There,

As stated in the subject line, the optical drive on my laptop Inspirion 1737 will not read any disks.

I have used it very rarely since new, June 2009, and it never seemed to perform very well.

However, now it will not read anything.

I checked the device manager and got this comment.  'Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39).

I ran diagnostics for the optical component under the Dell PC diagnostics which resulted in the following statement:

“A diagnostic category was specified and the applicable device does not exist.”

The Device manager revealed that the drive is a TSST corp DVD +- RW TS-T633A ATA Device

Driver version is Driver version is 6.0.6002.18005

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
