Cannot restore to factory settings

Hey everyone! I've been having problems restoring my Dell inspiron 1420 to factory settings.

It's a really old computer (over 6 years old) and I have so much random things on it that I would just rather restore it to factory settings so that I can start fresh. I have no desire to keep anything on it, so I really want to restore it to factory settings. I have a recovery partition that is intact and untouched, and DO NOT have a Windows vista DVD so I can't run the restore from there. There's nothing wrong with my computer (it boots), and I'm actually typing this from the laptop right now.

I originally tried to run via F8, by looking for the Dell Factory Image Restore option, but it doesn't appear in the menu.

So then I opened up my d: drive in windows explorer and I tried to use PCRestore, but it terminates with a blank error message.

Not to be outdone, I tried to run imagex from command prompt directly by doing this:
http://smsoftdev-solutions.blogspot.com/2009/03/how-to-restore-dell-factory-image-when.html

It ran but terminated at 1% with this error:

[Error: 32] c:\Boot\BCD. [Uncompress File: <seq. 60> -> CreateFile failed]
[Error: 32] c:\Boot\BCD. [ResourceExtractToFileByStruct: <seq. 50> -> Uncompress or WimCopyFileEx failed]
[Error: 32] c:\Boot\BCD
Error restoring image.
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

I'm currently out of ideas and google isn't helping me! I'm not computer savvy so hopefully someone will be patient with me? I follow instructions really well! :) Thanks so much in advance.
