I have an Optiplex 740 running Windows XP Professional. I got a new printer last week: a brother HL-2270DW, and it is hooked up through a USB port. It prints fine, until the computer has been in sleep mode for a few hours. Then, the printer status monitor says it is offline (although it is listed as online and ready in Printers and Faxes)and it will not come back and print until I re-boot my computer. Brother says there is no problem with the printer. I have run a Dell diagnostic on the USB ports and they are supposedly functioning, although I do note that my Seagate external drive also now sometimes also goes to sleep and does not come back until re-boot. This never happened before I got the printer. I have unchecked the box on both USB Root Hubs that says "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" which someone told me would fix the problem, but it hasn't. Brother says that this is either a Dell (hardware) problem or a Microsoft Windows problem. Any help appreciated.
