USB 3 problems with X51

I am hoping you can help me. About 13 months ago, (warranty just over) I purchased an Alienware X51 computer that came with Renesas Root Hub. Until lately, I have only used those 2 ports (USB 3 ports) on my machine with USB 2 drives and there has never been a problem. Today, I purchase my first USB 3 drive from Lexar. The drive works fine in the USB 2 ports in front of the computer. If I plug it into the USB 3 slots, It immediately crashes the computer. I have looked in Device Manager and noticed the 2 versions of the drivers which are 

1. USB 3 Host Controller is 3.0.8.0 and

2. USB 3 Root Hub is 3.0.23.0

Are these the correct 2 drivers and are they compatible? My son has the same computer purchased same time and they are both version 3.0.8.0. Why the discrepancy?

Is there any other reason why my X51 would be crashing?
