Inspiron 17R N7110: adaptive brightness

Hi,

I've an annoying problem with my Inspiron 17R N7110. The adaptive brightness/ambient light is very annoying and it seems like there's no way to disable. I've been reading threads on other forums and it seems like other people have the same problem, even with other models.

Basically, what happens is that, based on the content I've on the screen, the brightness changes automatically. Even when scrolling through a page with random content, the brightness changes by itself.

Here's what I've tried based on possible solutions posted both on this forum and elsewhere:

- power options in Windows, disable adaptive brightness
- disabled the adaptive brightness service, set it to disabled (restarted afterwards, of course)
- updated the drivers for both GPUs
- disabled both GPUs completely
- checked BIOS for ambient light sensor setting (doesn't seem to exist)
- checked for options in Dell QuickSet, unfortunately the program doesn't have any options other than the quick buttons and hotkey control
- updated BIOS

The only workaround is to set brightness to 100%, unfortunately that's not the best option since I always have 35-40% brightness.

And also, I should mention that the problem only occurs when the laptop is not connected to the charger. In other words, only when it's running on battery power.

Any advice would be much appreciated.
