Dell 3521 integrated microphone issues

Hi there!

My built-in microphone has some issues. Even though it says it's working and it catches some sounds(when using sound recorder),  it just can't record anything I say, and even if it does, I can barely hear myself. I've tried reinstalling the audio drivers, added 30 dB microphone boost, but it doesn't help that much, plus it amplifies the annoying 'noise' as well. This all wouldn't be a problem, if my laptop had a microphone jack, so I could use my headphone's mic. But it has only one, and I was told that  trying to 'merge' my headphone's 2 jacks into 1 single jack with 3 rings wouldn't work.

Some specs:
 - OS: win8 64bit
 -  in device manager / sound, video and game controllers: High Definition Audio Device, Realtek High Definition Audio
 -  I also have Waves MaxxAudio installed, tried messing with it, nothing helped
 -  in sound / recording devices, all I have is a "Microphone | Realtek High Definition Audio" (I've looked around to see if anyone had similiar issues, and saw some people with 2 microphones under recording devices)
 - I was / I am currently using the driver downloaded from dell, 6.0.1.6662

It used to work earlier, but something apparently went wrong. Might it have some problems with certain programs? I haven't touched my audio drivers since the windows install (until the issues appeared, then I tried some reinstalls).

Thanks in advance!
