I know this is a long post but would really appreciate your help, this is so frustrating, im considering comepletely re-formatting my pc however I have never done this before and i dont have the original installation CD's i dont believe I got them originally. Please Help...=[

Ok, so i have the XPS 8300 and I have been having problems with my audio. Where do i start. Firstly, sometimes my audio will randomly cut out, for example, if i am watching a youtube video, the sound is fine but if i stop watching it and go to watch another one, the sound suddenly doesnt work. This doesnt happen all the time but on random occasions. To try a quick fix i put the radio on from a website in the background and mute it but keeping it running, this seems to keep the audio working.

Secondly, I just bought myself a new gaming headset "Gamecom 780" which used a USB connector, however when i plug it in, it wont let me change the volume aka doesnt let me play audio, its not the headset, it works on my laptop straight away. I also have speakers that connect to the ports in the back of the PC and they work fine. Ok... so when i hover over the audio icon in the bottom right toolbar with the headset in, it says that "no audio device is enabled" however when going to the playback devices it says that the headset is enabled. Ok.. now whether im using the headset that doesnt work or the speakers that do, if im on playback devices and i try to disable the device, it wont let me, i click on it, but nothing happens, it wont let me click "configure speakers" or anything.

Ok one last thing that might help, if i do "dxDiag" I get the following message come up "Error: Problem getting extra sound info".

Yes i have re-installed drivers, which has no effect. I have spoken to dell on the phone who didnt seem to know what the problem was and spent too long on the phone i ended up having to go out. I have windows 7 64x.
