Unfortunately , my XPS 9100 turned out to be a lemon. First time I have ever had a really bad experience with a Dell product, and I've been using their stuff for 10-12 years.
Bought this with Win7/64 Pro and the best avail video card option, primarily for business/home use and for aviation simulators.
Right out of the box, the brand new 9100 would automatically and randomly turn itself off...power down...and I would have to restart. Dell Tech Teams tried for two weeks to solve the problem and couldn't: so Dell replaced it.
Replacement ran OK for about a year and then in June 2012 the operating system went heywire. Wouldn't let me restore using the 'mirror image' feature and wouldn't accept System Restore either. Couldn't even restore from the factory disk. Gradually things started to go to hell. TechTeam again has tried their best over the past 80 days to restore it to factory setting, even resorting to replacing the motherboard twice, the video card twice and even the fan motor, but it won't allow Win7 to be reinstalled. Once again, the 9100 became useless. Both the Tech Team guys and me are at the end of our proverbial ropes: this problem simply can't be fixed via a phone patch. So they have requested Dell HQ to replace it, but Dell has not responded. In the meantime, I've been without my desktop for weeks now and have to borrow this little llaptop from my wife to try to keep up with email and other reqular chores.
Not only am I unhappy with the XPS 9100, but am also highly dissatisfied with Dells Customer Service (Tech Team guys excepted, they've been great to me).
Hate to be so negative, but thought I should let any prospective buyers of this model computer from Dell know that they may be buying a computer with a built-ibn flaw. Hope it turns out that I am the only one with this unhappy story to tell. It's for me it's still not resolved at this writing...the cptr is sitting in a corner, unplugged, awaiting it's fate. At this point, it's a total loss.
