I post this here as I have been told by phone support that my Dell 5150 which has been a faithful servant for 6 years will not support/work with Windows 8 - I have it working perfectly with all but my monitor resolution.
Basically my system is a Dimension 5150 with a Dell IN2030M monitor purchased May 2012.
I have recently upgraded to Windows 8 as a dual boot with Linux Mint 13 (MAYA).
My monitor works perfectly under Linux at 1600 x 900 @ 60 hZ.
The ONLY two resolutions offered by Windows 8 are 1024 x 768 or 1280 x 1024 and both are at 64 hZ.
My driver is by Dell Inc, 19/07/2012, 3.0.0.0.
I have tried d/l files R119714 and R126542 (which are basically WinXP and Vista - the Dell site does NOT offer drivers for Win8 )but cannot get them to install because - "One or more files is missing or corrupt...." I am not even sure if these files are relevant,
What can I do to get 1600 x 900 @ 60 hZ in Win8 please?
I am thinking of extracting these two files into the appropriate Windows Video Drivers folder but have yet to find it.
As it is still early days with Win8 maybe this is an oversight by Dell
